Sergio is a 29-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, currently assigned to Training Division. As an Advanced POST instructor, Sergio has the unique opportunity to facilitate the Academy Instruction Certification Course (AICC) on a full-time basis. He enjoys presenting a five-day, forty-hour curriculum with over one hundred and fifty AICC course presentations. One may think he is a one-trick-pony, but he combines his two decades of teaching experience with his real world experience as a beat cop in Central and South Los Angeles to propel real-world leadership and learning. In patrol, Sergio worked as a Field Training Officer (FTO) and gained invaluable experience serving an ethnically diverse community which enriches his perspective not only as a public servant but also in relating to adult learners in the classroom. As an LAPD officer, Sergio has worked large scale events namely the 2000 Democratic National Convention and the historic 1992 Civil Unrest as well as the catastrophic 1994 Northridge Earthquake. Always humble, Sergio would be hard-pressed to reveal that he has experience as a global instructor having taught in Japan and Germany to train our Armed Forces; United States Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Military Police.
